Seriously people of America…this is a stickup. What in the world is going on here?! Look, I’m no economist but are we really going o sit back and let this ridiculous “stimulus package” get passed without a peep? The worst part is even some professional economists are unsure whether it’s even enough:

“It’s possible that this won’t be enough to jump start the economy — that, in fact, policy makers will have to come back and provide more help to the economy before all is said and done,” Mark Zandi, economist with Moody’s economy.com, told ABC News in an interview.

Well that’s super. Now let me tell you what some of this one trillion ($1,000,000,000,000) “stimulus” plan entails.

$500 tax cut for most workers – (Didn’t we already try this? Last year’s $600 rebate checks failed to “stimulate” the economy.)

Dog Parks

Federal Building Reparations

Water Slides

Frisbee golf courses

A few months back we were told if the $700+ billion financial institution bailout (Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP)) was not passed immediately the earth would stop on it’s axis, the stars would fall out of the sky and life as we knew it in the US would cease to exist. So after much debate it was passed…and the credit sector did not rebound and no stars fell out of the celestial heavens…that I’m aware of.

So after that monumental debacle of a precedent was set, money seemed to flow out of the capital on what seemed like a daily basis in bailouts and beggar handouts at your expense. Now, after the zombie mantra of “change” has finally started to wane we get whacked with a near one trillion dollar stimulus plan.

God help our children who will have to shoulder much of this epic burden.

The housing market has tanked, many hard working Americans now find themselve’s jobless and we see the US government taking more and more control of the commercial sector and centralizing it’s power. Is taxing the American citizens another one trillion dollars really going to make things any better? I’d rather just roll the dice and ride it out at this point. What do you think?

This weekend I had the pleasure of meeting four individuals who love Oahu hiking as much as I do: Laarni, Frank, Justin and James. Funny part is this was James first hike on Oahu and it’s the Bowman Trail, arguably one of the toughest and most dangerous trails on Oahu. Nothing like a nice 12 mile long expert rated trail to break in the new guy!

Me, James (in blue), Frank, Laarni and Justin

Bowman Trail is an 12 mile long (round trip) Oahu hiking trail which leads up to the Ko’olau summit. This is an all day hike and it really will take all day. It is a 2,400 foot climb to the summit but with all the ups and down most people agree it’s really about 4,000 feet of climbing.

James negotiating a slip and die portion of the trail.

It is a wicked roller coaster of a ride not for those who have a fear of dangling from ledges, hanging onto a wire while ascending/descending ridge lines or slinking across a razor thin section of ridge. However the rewards are well worth the struggle…

We started this trail at roughly 8 a.m., we meant to start it at 630 but you know how that goes. The trail starts off with a heart pounding climb up what seemed to be a few hundred feet just to get onto the trail. From there the trail was relatively mild…for a short way.

Early along the way you’ll get beautiful views of Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, etc.

You will get dirty on this trail fast. It rained on us more than a few times on our ascent which makes the trail very slick in spots and creates mud pits in others. There is no such thing as Oahu hiking without rain and mud!

There are numerous places on the trail where you will have to use rope or wires to ascend or descend the ridge. BE CAREFUL! Near the summit of this trail the wire broke in James hand as he was descending a particularly steep segment of the trail. Check all cables thoroughly first and turn around if you don’t feel 100% confident.

When you eventually make it to the summit you will be rewarded with amazing views of both Kaneohe and Honolulu from the Ko’oalu Range. Snap some photos, make some videos, breath in the fresh air and eat some grub.

Justin came through with MREs for everyone.

Don’t linger too long though since you still have a six mile descent awaiting and probably want to make it down the mountain before nightfall.

Bowman Trail Recommendations:

Start this trail early.

Bring a more than healthy supply of water.

Bring lots of carbohydrates, jerky, bananas, etc.

Just in case you’ll probably want to bring a headlamp.

Bring your basic first aid, tourniquet, dressings, etc…you never know.

Directions to Bowman Trailhead:

The Bowman Trail Head lies on the other side of the basketball court of the Kalihi Elementary School (2471 Kula Kolea Dr, Honolulu, HI 96819 -mapquest it) off the Likelike Highway. You will need to park in the residential area on Naai Street. Please be curteous to the residents. Once you’re parked just walk up to the school basketball courts and you should see the trailhead.

Every natural body building afficianado and their mother takes creatine, whey protein, arginine, glutamin and branch chain amino acids. Those nutritional supplements, along with a strict diet, are the cornerstone to gaining more muscle mass. However, there are some very simple nutritional supplements you should not exclude in your natural body building diet.

Vitamin D – Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble prohormones, the two major forms of which are vitamin D2 (or ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (or cholecalciferol). The term vitamin D also refers to metabolites and other analogues of these substances. Vitamin D3 is produced in skin exposed to sunlight, specifically ultraviolet B radiation.

Vitamin D regulates the calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood by promoting their absorption from food in the intestines, and by promoting re-absorption of calcium in the kidneys.

It promotes bone formation and mineralization and is essential in the development of an intact and strong skeleton. Although, at very high levels it will promote the resorption of bone.

It inhibits parathyroid hormone secretion from the parathyroid gland.

Vitamin D affects the immune system by promoting immunosuppression, phagocytosis, and anti-tumor activity.

Folate – Folic acid and folate (the anion form) are forms of the water-soluble Vitamin B9. These occur naturally in food and can also be taken as supplements. Folate is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells.

Pycnogenol – Pycnogenol is a natural product made from the bark of the European coastal pine, Pinus maritima. Pycnogenol is rich in proanthocyanidins, a special class of water-soluble antioxidant flavonoids, which are excellent free radical scavengers. Human research has shown pycnogenol can boost nitric oxide synthase. In short it will boost your NO levels helping you get that pump.

Vitex Agnus Castus – If you’re a female this supplement has beneficial effects in the management of PMS. For natural body building men this little supplement can be used as a secondary component because of its effects on testosterone levels

Melatonin – Yep, this nutritional supplement will make you verrrry sleepy if you take 50mg before bed. With that much you’ll go into a deep REM and have wicked vivid dreams. However, a recent study from Baylor University has shown that males taking a small dose of melatonin (5mg) before a workout increased their GH levels just before and after their workouts. Pretty cool!

Safed Musli - Safed Musli is an Ayurvedic herb used for centuries to improve physical strength and male fertility. We now know that this due to the high concentrations of spirosta-steroidal saponins found in this compound, which have been shown to significantly increase testosterone levels (1,2,3,6). Safed musli naturally occurs in forests of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra States which are listed in the rare species of India.

Stininging Nettle Root – This natural herb will increase ‘free’ testosterone levels in human males. It is the free testosterone that is responsible for muscle gains, fat loss, and libido.

Avena Sativa – Avena Sativa, better known as wild oat, is an annual grass, which is cultivated for its edible grain. It has the effect of increasing free testosterone levels (the testosterone that can be used by the body). While the mechanism under which it exerts this benefit is not clear, it is suspected that it occurs through an increase in LH levels, just like Tribulus.

Royal Jelly – Royal Jelly is the creamy milk produced in the hypopharyn-geal glands on nursing bees. Sounds tasty right! Besides a slew of other health benefits royal jelly is a rich source of essential and non-essential amino acids. Studies have also show it to decrease lactic acid buildup, thereby increasing endurance.

I’m trying to put on an additional 15-20 lbs. of lean muscle by the new year. It takes a lot of work and diet discipline…which I’m not too good at yet. Diet is probably about 80% of gaining lean muscle mass but my Gaspari Nutrition body building supplement stack has shortened the curve substantially.

I’ve tried just about every weight lifting supplement from MuscleTech to BSN but Gaspari Nutritions line of weight lifting supplements works the best for me. Here’s my body building supplement stack:

I was going to let this fade away but upon reflection I felt it was important to set things straight. Just for the record I do not judge for it is not my right but Gods alone. However…check out the first Google Adsense ad displayed below that found it’s way onto my blog:

Homosexuality forgiven, absolutely. Our God is a loving, compassionate and forgiving God.

God’s “New Bible” welcomes the gays? Hmm…that’s odd because 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 tells us:

9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Long story short this may be one of the most absurd things I’ve found on the NET concerning our Lord and savior. The endbible.com site is really just a marketing page to promote the hardcover version of the Holy Bible with God’s New Law listed on lulu.com. Navigate to LuLu and you’ll read:

Description:

In the year 2000, God’s New Law was declared. This Holy Bible is the New Testament along with a new book entitled God’s New Law, which bears testimony of prophecy fulfilled, prophecy to be, and the decommissioning of traditional religion so God may dwell with all those who believe. God’s New Law is the last book of the bible and heralds the birth of God’s religion without doctrine.
(New Testament & God’s New Law w/TOC)

New Additions: Homosexuality and fornication forgiven. Gay marriage in God’s Kingdom.

Gay marriage in Gods Kingdom? Wow, that’s 100% bologna! Hebrews 13:8-9 clearly tells us:

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9 Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.

So over the last few thousands years God changed his mind? LOL, I don’t think so!

Remain rooted and knowledgeable in your faith by diligently reading the scriptures and strengthening your relationship with Jesus Christ. False teachings and false prophets will all fade away but the living Word of God lasts forever.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go add that site to Googles competitive ad filter so it doesn’t show up anymore on my site. Always take a look at some of the ads that may show up on your web site(s). Do you want to be associated with some of them?

God bless!

Spending time in the word of God is an important aspect of my life. Each morning I try to read at least two chapters of the Bible before logging on and checking e-mails or my Adsense account. =)

It’s important. Starting my day in the word and prayer keeps me focused on whats really important. My relationship with Jesus Christ. When you start to develop a strong relationship with Jesus everything else in your life naturally starts to fall into place.

One of the most important things in strengthening my walk with Christ is wisdom. In 1 Kings 3-14 we read about King Solomon, son of King David, the wisest man who has ever lived:

4 The king went to Gibeon to offer sacrifices, for that was the most important high place, and Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

6 Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.

7 “Now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both riches and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”

Instead of asking for riches, more power, etc. King Solomon simply asked the Lord for wisdom. As God has stated, you will never be as wise as King Solomon, but if you ask for wisdom and discernment from God with a humble heart He will surely give it to you.

However, when God does grant you wisdom you must make the right decisions. Otherwise, you only squander the insight God has blessed you, which hinders your spiritual growth.

I’ve struggled with this many times. I know you’re all perfect but sometimes I slip. =)

One of my favorite books of the bible is Proverbs. A collection of wisdom filled verses written almost exclusively by King Solomon…go figure!

If you want more wisdom and understanding of Gods expectations of us read a chapter of Proverbs….every month. Proverbs is 31 chapters long so whatever the date is simply read that chapter for the day and so forth and so on. I learned that from one of my favorite ministers out here in Hawaii, Pastor Wayne Cordeiro of New Hope Christian Fellowship Oahu.

Spend time in the word. Keep God first and let His words of wisdom guide you in all that you do.

Allen and I got a late start on Pu’u Manamana and didn’t make it to the trail head until about 1215. He overslept….much like he does for work because he’s late all the time (obligatory dime drop).

Generally speaking you definitely want to start this trail in the morning. It’s only a 4-mile loop but I can guarantee you it will take you longer to traverse than you’d expect.

As soon as I stepped foot on the trail I tightened up my backpack straps and pulled my visor down a little bit….this one was gonna be rough. The trail starts steep and doesn’t let up until you hit the summit more than 2100 feet straight up.

This trail is NO JOKE TOUGH. Besides the incredibly narrow passage along this legendary ridge, with imminent death (or maiming) on either side of you; you also have to be wary of bare roots, loose rocks/dirt, wind gusts and frequent rain showers.

After about 1500 feet up we got dumped on by more than just a little rain and remained soaked for the rest of the hike. Climbing this fantastic ridge in the rain was not that difficult but going down the slippery 2000 ft drop for about a mile back to civilization proved to be incredibly exhausting and dangerous.

Despite the difficulty of this razor thin trail it is one of the best marked trails I’ve hiked around Oahu. With all the pink markers that adorn this trail getting lost is a non issue because I can guarantee you they’ll find you at the bottom of the mountain if you step off of the path =)

Best of luck to you if you decide to take up this challenging Oahu hike. Don’t do it alone, tread lightly, turn around if you don’t feel safe and above all God bless you.

Well, Allen, Kaden and I decided to tackle the Hahaione Trail in Hawaii Kai today. Finding the trail head was a breeze but we lost the trail before we really even got started. Evidently, as we were later told, we were supposed to cross a dried out stream bed and then work our way up the switchbacks on the side of the mountain. Whoops missed that one!

However, being the trailblazers we are we decided to blaze our own path straight up to the summit. Yeah, that didn’t fly. At about 400 feet up, hanging from saplings and trying not to start a fatal rock slide we bowed out to the mountain. I know God has a sense of humor and he must have been rolling looking down on us.

Still looking to break a good sweat we headed out to the Mauumae Ridge (Lanipo) Trail. We made pretty good time by practically running the trail and hit the Lanipo summit (3.7 miles) in about 1.5 hours. Along the way we got caught in more than a few downpours which was a pleasant relief from the heat but made the trail just a little slick in spots. Leaving the top down on the JEEP (once again) made the ride home even more enjoyable.

Anyhow, if you’re looking for a great workout and wicked good views of the coast, Kaau Crater, Bellows AFB, Lanikai, and Kailua it’s for you. Check out the Mauumae Ridge (Lanipo) Trail yourself or hit me up on MySpace and we’ll roll out there en masse. =)

For directions to the trail head visit http://www.backyardoahu.com, it’s one of the better Oahu hiking sites you’ll come across.

God bless!
